Past Portraits and a Sewing Project
Summer has full on hit missoula, and my days have been filled with frolicking, and enjoying graduation celebrations. Therefore, my week has been lacking in the productive sense. Instead of showing off recent work, I put together a bunch of past portraits I'd drawn/ painted/ etc. I seriously have a thing for faces. These range from things I've done half hazardly in an hour of boredom, to quick study sketches, to taking a week. Well, ONE took a week, that's the painting. Anyways, sorry if you've already seen these!
Also, a tip; if you double click on a photo they pop up bigger and you can slide through all of them and see each in better quality.
HERE is what I have started to work on, but I don't want to make a habit of posting unfinished projects.
This dress was pretty, but I never wore it, and I've been wanting to try to make a "fishtail" dress, since they sell like hot cakes and can be made with any old long dress.
So i started cutting into it. This is as far as I've gotten, hemming will be a pain in the butt.
for those who don't know what I mean by fish tail;

First Friday Preschool Art Fundraiser
I've been volunteering all year in my Aunt Judy's preschool class doing art projects with the kids, and finally we had the opportunity to show them off. The Downtown Dance Collective let us use their space for Spirit at Play's annual First Friday fundraiser, where we set up raffles, auctions, and artwork made by the kids.
(These snowmen were made in the fall. I came in and helped the kids arrange theirs on styrofoam to represent "Summer in Missoula")
I was pretty involved this year with the prep work of the show, and so it was great to see the end result of it all coming together. I was set up with my jewelry, giving a portion of the profits to the school, and I also commissioned portraits; parents could sign up to have me draw their children from photos. I got quite a bit of interest since I said I'd only charge $20/ portrait, but I really enjoy doing it, and it would also be beneficial to my portfolio, so I didn't want to overshoot with pricing.
